Making the Best of It

We’d been planning this girls’ weekend for several weeks. Ryley’s school play was scheduled for Friday evening, and my mom, sister-in-law, aunt, and grandma (and even a family friend!) had all decided to come cheer her on. Ryley was so excited, and it made her feel so special that all these people wanted to watch her perform!

But alas, the heavens opened on Thursday night, and we received our biggest snowfall in several years. Of all the weekends!! We had 17” of snow at our house. The play was canceled/postponed, and so was school. I think I was disappointed more than Ryley, though. Once she realized she was going to have a snow day with the girls, she was fine! My mom had already made it in before the storm, and though Alyson’s first flight was canceled, she was still able to make it in on Friday afternoon. Everyone else, however, was forced to bow out.

It was such a bummer! There was nothing we could do but make the best of it. We decided to enjoy our time together, and everyone will have to settle for a recording of the performance, whenever it is rescheduled.

So we had soup…  (the soup, mind you)

And we split up the parts and performed the play in our family room…

Alyson gave Ryley a “Cinderella” Precious Moments figurine, to celebrate and commemorate her role. Isn’t that sweet?

We played lots of games….

This is not the best picture, but notice the snow building up on the trampoline in the backyard….

When the snow finally stopped on Saturday, we decided to venture out to replenish our supply of Girl Scout cookies. Our troop leader lives near Washington Park, which is a very popular, beautiful park in Denver. We couldn’t resist taking some pictures!

We had dinner with my aunt and uncle that evening too. Overall, we had such a fun weekend together, even though there was no play! I mean, can you really ask for a better girly weekend than a snowy one?? Ryan was there, so we did have some masculinity around. :-) Poor guy.

Thank you, Mom and Alyson, for coming and making Ryley feel sooooo special!  We love you!

I'm just so thrilled that I was able to make it, especially with record snowfall! I had the very best time, and I have decided that we must continual girly weekends periodically! And maybe next time, Ryan can join up with the other guys so he's not so outnumbered! =) Love you guys! Thanks for a wonderful weekend!
